vCard Editor2 is an application to create and edit vCards directly.

vCard Editor2 is redesigned with Contacts.framework which is available from macOS 10.11.
vCard Editor2 lists contacts in the table separated by data types such like a spred sheet. vCard Editor2 also has a sort and a find&replace function.

vCard is a file has an extension vcf and used to exchange contact information between various contact applications. Not only Apple Contacts but also such applications can import/export the vcard file.
vCard Editor2 also has a feature of reading CSV file and showing a contact as QRCode. You can save the QRCode as a image to print on various materials.

Creating and Reading vCard and editing

vCard Editor2 can open a vCard file directly then lists contacts in a table suck like a spred sheet.
The available vCard format is vCard2.1 and later. If you open a file of vCard format before 3.0, you may need to select a text encoding. There is the option button in the Open Panel as below.

To edit the vCard file, please click the edit button at the left in the Toolbar. Or select the "Edit Document" menu in the Navigator menu. Then a red line under the title bar is shown.

You can select the View Type by the menu as below. When you select "Address", the Name and Address columns are shown. The itmes menu can be used to add columns to see other values.

  

Reading CSV files and exporting contacts as CSV

vCard Editor2 can read and export a CSV file.
You can open a CSV file as same as a vCard file through the open menu.
However you can not edit the CSV file, but you can drag&drop the contact to the vCard document.

vCard Editor2 expects the items in a CSV file are ordered as the following way. But if the file has a line at the beginning to designate the items order, the items are read as the specified order.
Please check the sample file if you want to add the items list.

To Export as CSV

The menu in the file menu is enabled when you select more than one contact in the window. When the menu is selected, the save file dialog will be shown. Please set the filename then press the Export button. The contacts you selected will be written in the file.

In the exported CSV, the first line is inserted as it is mentioned above. It means that not all the values in the contact are written in the file. Also the text encoding will be UTF-8.


Sorting

Each column has a sort button as below which will help you finding a value in the column.

And the "Sort Options" menu in the Toolbar is for changing the way of sort.

Find&Replace

vCard Editor2 has a Find&Replace function.
The FindBar will be shown when you select the Find menu in the edit menu or click the find button in the Toolbar.

Please note that the search string is done by the each sub item. For example the Address stirng consists of 5 sub items: ZIP, State, City, Street and County.
You can find "Cupertino" or "CA" separately, but cann't find "Cupertino, CA".


Comparing arbitral two contacts and copy/move between them

The compare panel is for comparing arbitral two contacts in the list.
In the edit mode, you can change the value and move/copy between contacts by drag&drop.
In order to copy the value, dragging value with holding option key.


Action and Substitution by a context menu

When you control-click the cell, the context menu will be shown as below. Some cells have a action such as opening a mail message or a map. The action depends on the type of the cell.

In the edit mode, some edit menus in the context menu will be enabled such as inserting a value or replacing the value in the selected cells. If multiple cells are selected, the operation works for the selected cells.


Bulk edit function in the selected multiple cells

You can change multiple labels or values at once with selecting multiple cells.
Select multiple rows, then change the value of one of the cell by double clicking the value. Then an alert is shown for making sure the operation. When you select OK, the values of selected cells will be changed as it is entered.


Showing QRCode

vCard Editor2 can show QRCode of the selected contact information, and you can Copy&Paste the image to other documents.


Changing font and size

You can change font and size in the Table.

Drag&Drop Contacts

You can drag&drop contacts between vCard Editor2's 'documents and Apple Contact or Apple Mail.
And when Groups are visible, Drag&Drop can be used to add a member to a group.
You need to click the Edit button before dropping the item.

"Copy" and "Copy as CSV"

The "Copy" and the "Copy as CSV" menu in the Edit menu, are used to copy the select row as "Text" to a paste buffer. When you select the "Copy", items in the columns are divided by a tab, but when you select the "Copy as CSV", they are divided by a comma. So when you chose "Copy", you can paste the row in the table of Numbers or Excel as what you see.

Printing

Select a contact and then select “Print” from the File menu. You can select multiple contacts by cmd-click.
When you select the "vCard Editor2" menu in the print dialog, the configuration pane will be shown for selecting a value to print.


Operating system requirements:

vCard Editor2 works in macOS 10.11 and later.

How to Install the trial version:

Double click on the zip file that you downloaded, then the vCardEditor-Trial.app is created.

Uninstallation:

You can just delete this software from the installed folder in order to uninstall this software.
